| The Greek God Narcissus In a world that literally lives online, narcissism is not what it use to be. In fact narcissism has evolved into something more sinister - narcissism has in effect become glamorous... |
The Glamorama of Narcissism has weaved its way into our lives like a spider on a mission - the mission- to destroy what is left of reasonable ethics... and young people are its target and it is working, thanks in part to social websites like Facebook, Myspace, Hi 5, Twitter etc - basically any site that allows one to post personal photos highlighting 'Me' in everyday life, updating one's status with: "I am eating", "I am walking", "I am stuck in traffic" is fair game... you get the point - a two way dialogue is slowly disappearing - we are witnessing the transformation of the new world where I and ME are far more important than You, Us, We and Them...

Gone are the days when one was told to be humble, act humble, control your ego for although it was good to think highly of oneself it was not okay to act highly... perhaps part of our young generation are rebelling ? - viewing this ideology as dated and hypocritical and to some extent they maybe be correct...
We now live in a realm where superficiality leads over reason and logic... many seek fancy cars, clothing, bags, jewelry, gadgets and other material items they cannot afford... they seek them not out of need but out of desire - the desire to be acknowledged for their uniqueness etc... this begs the question is desire bad? Personally everything is bad if it is desired in a way that gives birth to frustration, disappointment, anger, crime, repression or depression...
To be famous, to dress like the famous, to live like the famous has become more than desire - it has become a need and as we have been told - to need is better than to want though this varies from subject to subject...
But need like want or desire is just as potentially bad and one must reflect on one's own personal surroundings, persona, character and evaluate whether this need is good to go or not...
Seeking a thing or a person to make oneself better is the beginning of narcissism, after this the world is yours and the individual's perception of right and wrong becomes clouded in gold dust and lust...
To end the cycle of the Glamorama of Narcissism one must end the cause... the cause is never black and white or grey - it can reflect itself in a rainbow of colors leaving the individual blinded to its fault...
I cannot tell you how to end the cause - this is a bit of self discovery that is met in the privacy of one's mind... what I can tell is, if you find it - you are on the path to an amazing journey that will bring much happiness and contentment few attain but many desire...
Understanding our limitations, evolving and adapting are keys to a happier more fulfilling life - let us use them wisely
